Teale Appeal: music for a better world!

When I started the Teale Appeal project in Louisville, I wanted it to represent more than great music. I wanted it to represent music with a purpose--music that uplifts, inspires, and encourages people, especially those in marginalized communities.

That's why in 2024 I partnered with my home congregation of Christ Church Episcopal Cathedral to create the Summer Songwriter Series--an annual concert series to benefit organizations connected with the Cathedral.

To date, we've raised thousands of dollars for organizations making a difference in the Louisville area, including:

CLOUT (Citizens of Louisville Organized and United Together): an interfaith coalition advocating for national best practices in education, mental health, affordable housing, police reform, and so much more

CLCM (Central Louisville Community Ministries): one of 13 community ministries dedicated to ending the cycle of need in Louisville. Serving the downtown area, CLCM operates the food pantry and clothes closet at Calvary Episcopal

UP for Women and Children: a nonprofit dedicated to supporting women, children, and non-binary individuals experiencing homelessness and domestic violence. UP operates the women's shelter adjacent to Christ Church Cathedral and has partnered with us to operate our Room in the Inn winter shelter

Though I'm in Austin now, Father Charles hopes to continue the series,  so stay tuned for news on that front!

And I'll be working to form partnerships in Austin to carry out the same ministry and advocacy through music--stay tuned for more!

I was honored to serve on CLOUT's mental health steering committee. Through our tireless research and advocacy, we secured $1.15 million in Metro Council funding for the Seven Counties Crisis Stabilization Center, a project designed as an alternative to jails or hospitals in time of mental health crisis.

Our first 2026 show supported the Monarch Music and Arts Community, the amazing listening room and artist haven created by Mark Roberts!
